Making an inroad
into the grain handling business, Mission Terminal
Inc. opened its first primary elevator on the
prairies today at Alexander, Manitoba, on a CP Rail
line just west of Brandon.
With a capacity of nearly 6,000 tonnes, the elevator
will help the company grow its grain handling
business with its ability to handle wheat, barley,
canola, flax, peas, oats and rye for area farmers.
Adrian Measner, president and CEO of Mission
Terminal Inc. and MTI’s parent company Upper Lakes
Grain Group, says MTI has built its business by
offering farmers a competitive alternative for grain
handling and elevation through its support and
promotion of producer cars.
“This acquisition builds on our extensive producer
car network, demonstrating our commitment to
becoming a valuable service partner for prairie
grain farmers,” Measner said.
Grain stored at the elevator will be shipped
primarily to Thunder Bay and Trois-Rivières, where
the company operates terminal elevators, or to the
United States. Farmers have been invited to attend
the elevator’s open house this afternoon.
