Locomotive Engineer Alex Gelhorn retired from Company Service after
34 years and 3 months of service. Brother Gelhorn started his career
with CP Rail in March of 1974 and completed it Sunday April 27th, 2008
in Winnipeg on one of the pristine Road Switcher Assignments. Alex
enjoyed working with his crew on this assignment very much and the crew
enjoyed working with him as well.
He was met today by his wife Val, several co-workers as well as
Company Officer Dave Instance and Union Officer Harvey Makoski.
Alex is well known for his distinct sense of humour as well as his quick
conclusions and assessments of how the Company and Union run their
respective operations. He also had a special fondness for the Spare
Engineers, this always lent to very interesting, intelligent and
enlightening conversations. The spare board will certainly miss Alex's
notorious treatment.
Alex and Val's immediate plan for retirement include spending time
caring for Alex's mother in her golden years. They also plan to enjoy
their cabin near Caddy Lake, fishing, as well as travelling.
For those who had the pleasure of working with Alex it was always fun no
matter how long and hard the jobs were. We wish you a healthy, happy,
long retirement; we will miss the companionship of a true gentleman.
Congratulations on your retirement.
