Sometime ago you granted me the privilege, as your President, to seek your direct input on changes to the TCRC Bylaws. As a result of this privilege I recently put forward to each of you (some 10,000 plus members) comprehensive Bylaws changes for you to vote upon.
The voting was completed on July 24th with the results becoming Official 72 hours thereafter. I have received the report of both the Auditor and the Voting Supervisor and can now advise that the initiative was rejected with the vote results as follows:
BALLOTS COUNTED - 2929
VOTES OPPOSED – 2192
VOTES IN FAVOUR – 723
VOTES SPOILED – 6
Two concerns were raised with respect to the electronic voting and both were resolved;
1. Not receiving a PIN (issue corrected)
2. Question on voting access (Answer: only the independent Auditor and the Voting Supervisor)
There remains one (1) outstanding appeal (against the vote) that was submitted during the Voting Process. That appeal will be addressed by the TCRC Executive Board.
The costs (salaries and expenses) of the initiative are as follows:
- Bylaw Review Committee - $112,990.71
- Western Canada Road Trip (excluding the TCRC President) - $24,145.19
- Intelivote Systems (excluding the Auditor) - $75,810.30
TOTAL COST OF - $212,946.20
In considering the debate that took place during the voting process, and the results of the vote, the TCRC Membership has clearly voiced what was acceptable and what was not acceptable for their Union and themselves on a move forward basis.
As your President I will work diligently to fulfill the expectations of the Membership and I ask for your
support in fulfilling those objectives.
In closing, as your President, I honour, respect and will be guided by the clear messages of the
Membership as a result of the initiative and respectfully request that all TCRC Members do the same. I
request this as more now than ever we need to work together to meet the extreme challenges facing us.
Best regards and fraternally yours,
President - TCRC
