Your Bargaining Committee, which includes Sisters
Shelly Brownlee and Kari Essery of the TCRC-RCTC
General Committee, met with the Company in the
presence of Federal Mediation and Conciliation
Services (FMCS) in Calgary commencing May 14.
We have continued to advance the members concerns
and unfortunately, at this point, we have not
achieved a negotiated settlement. The main issues of
fatigue management, pension, health spending
account, and work rules remain unresolved.
As you all are well aware, we are now within in a
day of our pending strike. Until you hear otherwise,
please continue to make arrangements and be prepared
to strike effective 0001 May 23, 2012.
As a late development, the Honorable Lisa Raitt,
Minister of Labour, has summoned Vice President Doug
Finnson to Ottawa for a meeting tomorrow. We are
unsure what this means and any attempt to interpret
the Ministers actions would be premature.
Accordingly, we must reiterate, until notified,
please continue organizing your strike committees
and preparation.
We are receiving numerous letters supporting both
our committee and the RTCs. Teamsters Canada and the
National Office continue to assist and support us
fully in our efforts on your behalf.
Your Bargaining Committee very much appreciates and
thanks those many members that have communicated
their support during this difficult process. We
remain committed to negotiating an agreement that
you will find acceptable.
Your Bargaining Committee is in regular contact with
your local representatives and will inform them as
soon as possible on developments in this ever
changing situation.
