CPR Eastern and Western Regions:

Your Bargaining Committee, which includes Sisters Shelly Brownlee and Kari Essery of the TCRC-RCTC General Committee, were meeting with the Company and the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Services (FMCS) in Calgary this week. As explained in our bulletin 14, Vice President Finnson was summoned to meet with the Honorable Lisa Raitt, Minister of Labour in Ottawa this morning.

Brother Finnson has reported that the Minister is keenly interested in the progress of our bargaining but at this time she will not be interfering with the process. The rest of our bargaining committee are now arranging to convene in Ottawa to continue bargaining with the Company.

As always, we are trying to achieve a negotiated settlement with the Company however we need to continue to prepare for a strike at 0001 May 23, 2012 (tonight).

As previously stated, we will provide service for GO Transit, Montreal Commuter Rail and the West Coast Express in the event of a strike or lockout. We have no desire to make the commuting public innocent pawns in our struggle to achieve a fair settlement. We have just been informed that CP Rail has relented in their opposition to running these trains.

Should we reach an agreement or if there are any other developments we will communicate this immediately.

Your Bargaining Committee very much appreciates and thanks those many members that have communicated their support during this difficult process. We remain committed to negotiating an agreement that you will find acceptable.

Your Bargaining Committee is in regular contact with your local representatives and will inform them as soon as possible on developments in this ever changing situation.

In Solidarity,
