Two people were fortunate to receive only minor injuries when their vehicle crashed into a moving train early this morning.

Headingley RCMP said a vehicle was heading west on the South Perimeter Highway when it hit the northbound train near St. Anne's Road.

The 83-year-old male driver and a 77-year-old female passenger sustained minor injuries, although there was major damage to their vehicle. Both were rushed to Victoria General Hospital.

Investigators say alcohol was not a factor, although road conditions and visibility were contributing factors.

The collision is still being investigated by Headingley RCMP traffic services and CP Rail police.
