A number of railcars carrying potash derailed five kilometres north of Govan on Thursday.

According to officials from Canadian Pacific Rail 18 railcars went off the track at approximately 7:45 a.m. at CP Rail mile 71, about one hour north of Regina.

Some mounds of potash were spilled. Environmental staff from CP Rail were on site and determined that the spill does not pose a risk to public safety or to the environment.

The RCMP responded to the scene and determined that there weren't any injuries.

The cause of the accident has not been determined. Internal investigators from CP Rail as well as officials from Transport Canada are looking into the incident.

Officials from CP Rail said that they had re-routing options available to continue moving customer product.
