CP Rail is assessing the damage after part of a southbound freight train jumped the tracks north of Calgary.

The derailment happened south of the town of Carstairs, where callers to 660News say they see some of the cars lying on their sides.

A CP spokesman tells 660News two locomotives and 11 cars are involved and no dangerous goods were being hauled by the train.

No one has been injured and the cause of the derailment is not known.
