On October 1, 2008 at 8:30 a.m., Hamiota RCMP Detachment were dispatched to a train derailment on Road 148 approximately 1/2 kilometer south of Provincial Highway 24 in the RM of Miniota.

RCMP attended and established the CN train involved was westbound when the derailment occurred causing 11 empty cars to leave the rail. Major damage was sustained to both the rail lines and the cars. No injuries were reported.

The train had 153 cars in total. The train was originally from Winnipeg heading west.

The cause of the derailment is not known at this time and will be investigated by CN. The main line is expected to be closed for an extended period of time.
