Rail cars heavily damaged
in derailment

On October 1, 2008 at 8:30 a.m., Hamiota RCMP Detachment were
dispatched to a train derailment on Road 148 approximately 1/2 kilometer
south of Provincial Highway 24 in the RM of Miniota.
RCMP attended and established the CN train involved was westbound when
the derailment occurred causing 11 empty cars to leave the rail. Major
damage was sustained to both the rail lines and the cars. No injuries
were reported.
The train had 153 cars in total. The train was originally from Winnipeg
heading west.
The cause of the derailment is not known at this time and will be
investigated by CN. The main line is expected to be closed for an
extended period of time.
