Winnipeg Thunder wins the 2009 Old Timers Rec Division Championship (over 35), at the 29th annual CP Rail Hockey Tournament held this year in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan held April 23 to 25th.
After finishing the preliminary round with a 3 & 1 record to place 3rd, they faced off against 2nd place T P & E Tiebreakers in the semi-final; a team that the Thunder suffered their only defeat to. This time the boys from the “Peg” came out on top with a 6-3 victory.
In the final they went up against the defending champion S & C Grinders. Backed by the solid goaltending of Kirk Murdoff, Winnipeg skated off with a 4-0 shutout victory. It is Thunder’s first championship at this annual event since winning the open division in 1995.
